KORISSA designs and curates a collection of high-quality, timeless home decor that is socially and environmentally responsible. They partner with artisans in Dhaka, Bangladesh and indigenous communities throughout rural communities in Ecuador to provide employment and education opportunities to traditionally marginalized groups. Their handcrafted baskets, planters, and decorative accents are made using natural dyes and eco-friendly materials. Their primary material is jute, an affordable, biodegradable and pollution-free natural fiber. Artisans in Bangladesh have come to refer to jute as the ‘Gold of Bengal’ for its versatile use and durability. The raw material is produced with intensive, yet low-impact, processing to separate the fibers and dry them out to be used. Artisans then create braids of the fiber and put them through a handloom to make the fabric-like pieces that are then woven into baskets. These artisans use heritage crafting techniques and skills that have been passed down from one generation of women to the next, and KORISSA provides them with a market to preserve this artistry. KORISSA advocates for their artisans to ensure that they are being paid living wages and given education and health care opportunities. They have created a people-centered, sustainable community for their artisans to grow while focusing on responsible production and total transparency. Their expertly crafted, durable woven products will elevate your space while supporting artisans and the planet.
