Dedicated to ethical, small-batch production, The Knotty Ones implements high standards regarding their sourcing, treatment of artisan makers, and manufacturing process. They make all their handknit sweaters, loungewear, and accessories exclusively using biodegradable, plastic-free, and cruelty-free yarns. Only using OEKO-TEX certified non-toxic dyes, The Knotty Ones also works with local artists who specialize in hand-dyeing using natural herbs. Even their buttons, made from Northern South American Corozo seeds, are only harvested after they naturally drop from the tree. Employing over 70 artisan women from rural Lithuania, The Knotty One's artisans handknit each piece in small batches. Each artisan maker handknits each sweater according to their own schedule that works best with them and their families. The Knotty Ones also work with women-run partner factories who factory-knit each sweater piece and hand-sew the final product. This manufacturing style results in a zero-waste approach that ensures no leftover scraps or deadstock fabrics.
