Austin, Texas brand milo+nicki is a cruelty-free, certified organic, sustainable, and vegan womenswear capsule collection that sets the bar for end-to-end ethical production practices with banana fabric.
The fabric used in milo+nicki’s pieces is made from sustainable banana tree waste — a byproduct of banana harvesting that uses the discarded stems and stalks of the banana plant to create a breathable, durable fabric. A collection of female weavers in India turn the waste of the banana plant into a fabric -- a process which is 100% carbon neutral. Once woven, the fabric is then hand-dyed with plant-based indigo and madder root. The fabric weavers milo+nicki employs receive fair wages and safe working conditions. The fabric is then shipped to New York City where it is cut and sewn by hand into milo+nicki’s intentionally small-batch capsule wardrobe. Milo+nicki also creates handmade zero-waste pieces that are upcycled from post-production scrap and waste. Milo+nicki is a women-owned and POC-owned business.
