Meet the maker KORISSA
Meet the maker KORISSA
KORISSA designs and curates socially and environmentally responsible natural home decor. They partner with artisans in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and indigenous communities throughout rural communities in Ecuador to provide employment and education opportunities to traditionally marginalized groups. Their handcrafted, fair trade baskets, planters, and decorative accents exclusively feature natural dyes and eco-friendly materials. Their primary material is jute, an affordable, biodegradable, and pollution-free natural fiber. Artisans in Bangladesh have come to refer to jute as the ‘Gold of Bengal’ for its versatile use and durability. Produced using an intensive, yet low-impact process, artisans separate and dry fibers to create braids. Artisans put them through a handloom to make the fabric-like pieces which are woven into baskets. These artisans use heritage crafting techniques and skills passed down from one generation of women to the next. KORISSA advocates for their artisans to ensure they receive living wages and provided education and health care opportunities. Their expertly crafted fair trade baskets and decor will elevate your space while supporting artisans and the planet.
