Made with Wicket & Craig vegetable tanned leather and Crawford Irish linen threads.
Hand cut and sewn in Zemper studio in Portland, Oregon. This product will feel intentionally tight upon first use. It requires breaking in.
What is vegetable tanned leather?
Vegetable tanning is the worlds oldest and most labor intensive tanning process. It utilizes environmentally safe, natural tannins found in a select few plants throughout the world. Each region has particular methods for their process. By using the barks, branches, leaves, and even some fruits of the selected plants, tanners can create a beautiful, durable, and environmentally friendly material that Zemper and countless craftspeople dating back to the ancient Greeks have used to create objects of beauty and utility.
Alec and Mara Zemper began making bags in 2013 after they couldn’t find the perfect leather backpack – so they made one themselves. It was then that Zemper was born. Zemper ignores trends and instead builds timeless, simple, elegant bags and wallets that are rugged and guaranteed for life. Zemper uses only sustainable, natural materials like 100% vegetable tanned leather from two tanneries: Wickett and Craig in Pennsylvania and Conceria Walpier in Tuscany, Italy. Zemper acts as an educational resource on leather tanning, helping to bring to light the negative impacts that chromium tanned leather has on the environment and people. All Zemper products are made with 100% linen thread and use solid copper and brass hardware. All Zemper are cut and stitched by hand in Portland, Oregon.

Exchanges and returns for store credit are free for your first request on all eligible items. Returns for a refund are subject to a $6 fee for return shipping and handling. Final sale items* are not eligible for return. Please initiate your return/exchange within 30 days of order fulfillment. All returns and exchanges must be unworn, unwashed, unused, and in original condition with tags to be eligible for return. Refunds or exchanges will not be processed for returned items that have been used or show signs of visible wear.
