Handcrafted and handwoven in a small village situated in the valley of Gods – Kullu, the designs have been inspired from local motifs which were discontinued by the society 30 years back to cater to a market which needed quick and cheaper shawls. Bringing a piece of heritage and craftsmanship to the market makes them more meaningful to both Soil to Studio's artisans and our customers.
Soil to Studio's weaving partner, Bhuttico is one of the oldest weaving societies and they are proud to have collaborated with them for their woolen scarf creations. Bhutti Weavers have been renowned for handloom weaving. Before India got independence, a group of 12 progressive handloom weavers joined hands and registered a Handloom Weavers Cooperative in 1944. Since then, the cooperative has been weaving beautiful textiles and has been given various National and International awards like the National Award Gold, Handloom Weavers National Award, Internationally recognized Woolmark certification for their quality craftsmanship.
Care: Dry-cleaning only
Soil to Studio uses time-honored techniques like handloom weaving, block-printing, natural dyeing, and hand embroidering to slow make table linens, pillows, wall art, rugs, and scarves in intentional, small batches. Each piece is made by artisans in rural villages and communities in India from natural fibers like wool, organic cotton, Indian linen, and silk. Founder Swati Bansal was born and raised in the small town of Udaipur in Rajasthan, India, where her upbringing fostered a strong appreciation for slow made textiles and handmade techniques. Soil to Studio’s mission is to empower artisans and their families, preserve local craftsmanship techniques, and to create sustainable livelihoods for their artisans. Soil to Studio follows fair trade practices and asks artisans to set their own prices for the pieces they make. Soil to Studio is also committed to sustainability by using low energy manufacturing techniques, utilizing solar power, rainwater collection and the reuse of post-production scraps. Soil to Studio is a POC-owned and women-owned brand.
