This black and white dhurrie rug is made from sheep's natural wool and woven by hand on the handloom. There are no colors added. There are only a few families left doing this kind of weaving on a traditional loop, so this technique is slowly disappearing. Hand-looms are a dying art that Ichcha hopes to preserve and promote. These dhurries are an effort towards that.

Hand woven on a traditional hand-loom

No chemical dyes used

85% wool, 15% cotton

Ichcha doesn’t just create a line of beautiful home products, they also work to greatly improve the lives of their women artisan partners in India and to promote the heritage craft of block printing, hand weaving, and hand embroidery. Ichcha is committed to having a minimal impact on the planet by only working with natural vegetable dyes made from flowers, leaves, minerals, trees, and bark. This ensures their products are safe for their artisans, consumers, and the earth. Ichcha’s handwoven fabrics are made from chemical-free cotton, handspun, and intricately woven on nomadic looms. Through partnerships with NGOs, Ichcha’s artisans are taught both Hindi and English, and receive medical checkups for themselves and their families. Ichcha’s artisans also set their own prices. Each piece is designed in New York by the three sisters who run Ichcha and are handcrafted by women artisans in rural communities all across India.
