D.A.R. Projects Oval Ocean Planter$105
Oval planter carved by hand from calcite porous ocean rock with ceramic base.
Dimensions: 6” [length] x 4” [width] x 4.5” [depth]
The unique texture of the calcareous porous rock and the traditional craftsmanship of stone carvers from the north coast inspire this eco-design winner of the German Design Award 2016 [Germany] and the jurors choice at the Design Toronto festival 2017 [Canada].
The natural calcite rock washes across the ocean floor to the communities of Northern Perú. Transformed by hand into a beautiful object, the functional elements are equally as captivating. The pores of the reef, arranged vertically, act as a natural drainage system to maintain only the necessary humidity around the plant. An ideal planter for contemporary interior decoration with its speckled ceramic base.
KUX STONE OBJECTS, (küx) reimagines everyday contemporary objects by engaging traditional techniques used by generations of master craftsmen on the north coast of Peru. All objects are hand-carved from unique, exotic Andean materials.
HOW TO WATER THE OCEAN PLANTER:
Place the ocean rock (without base) in a tub of water and fill to just below the top edge of the planter/dirt. Allow to soak for 15 minutes as water permeates the porous walls of the organic material. Remove, allowing to dry on a water-resistant surface, and then return it to a sunny spot.
The porous planter material allows water to reach plant roots generously, without over-watering thanks to its breathable walls.
