Every purchase of an Anchal product has an immediate impact and provides an artisan with a full-time job, health care benefits, design training, and educational workshops.

Anchal Project, pronounced [on-chal], is the creation of sisters Colleen and Maggie Clines. Maggie and Colleen were inspired to create Anchal after visiting Ajmer, India and learning about the extreme oppression some women in the region faced as commercial sex workers. They were moved by the economic opportunity presented by the region's rich textiles. Anchal’s contemporary geometric designs are defined by sophisticated patchwork and aggregated stitch patterns. Their approach revolutionizes the traditional Kantha quilting techniques from north India to create modern, heirloom quality pieces. All Anchal products are handmade in India and using eco-friendly dyes, natural fibers, and organic cotton.

Anchal Project also runs DyeScape, a natural dye education, and training program at their organization’s headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky. Anchal Project is a 501(c)3 non-profit and is fair trade certified by Fair Trade Federation.

Fair Trade
Our Fair Trade international brand partners work with makers and artisans outside the US and are committed to paying living wages, providing safe and healthy working conditions, sourcing materials local to their region wherever possible, and implementing eco-friendly practices across their manufacturing processes.
Heritage
Heritage products draw from age-old techniques, traditions or art forms that are in decline or in danger of being lost forever. Made Trade curates these heritage products from around the world to support artisans creating these traditional crafts, to share their cultural heritage with the world and do our part to preserve these centuries-old techniques.
Sustainable
Our sustainable brand partners are committed to responsible sourcing and intentional design that creates minimal negative environmental impact. Some of their methods may include sustainably harvesting raw materials, upcycling/recycling used materials (such as plastic or dead stock fabrics), or using all natural, earth-friendly materials (such as plant and mineral-based dyes).
Vegan
Vegan products on Made Trade contain no animal products or byproducts. We curate vegan brands who source natural materials as sustainably as possible, do not use polyurethane or other synthetic faux leather materials (instead use plant-based faux leathers, such as Piñatex or mushroom leather) and implement fair business practices with their suppliers and their employees.
