Yanawara is a purpose-driven, ethical fashion brand curating and designing sustainably made clothing and accessories. Aiming to promote artisans and traditional craft techniques, all of their products are inspired by the cultures and traditions of Bolivia. Yanawara mostly works with the Aymara people, an indigenous community in Bolivia, known for their masterful craftsmanship and exquisite woven textiles. A majority of these artisans are women who work from home or in small workshops. They use locally- and sustainably-sourced alpaca wool, which is not only deeply linked to Bolivia’s culture, but is also a hypoallergenic, lightweight, and incredibly soft fiber. Each product is hand spun using traditional spinning and weaving techniques, and are dyed using all natural dyes made from local plants. Yanawara is also committed to honoring the Bolivian traditional and sustainable practice of “mutual breeding”, an ancestral and harm-free process where mutual care, love and respect are shown to animals, people, and the environment. Yanawara develops a close relationship with their artisan partners, and visits the workshops to ensure ethical manufacturing practices.
